I cannot imagine walking away from that much money, but I build buildings as a real estate investor, so I do understand "owning the plans" which I require when I hire an architect to design a building for us. I imagine it is similar. We have some good ideas to innovate in spaces and direct the team who actually makes that code-compliant and helps us produce the working drawings so it can be built in the field. We share the drawings at many stages with partners who do foundations, framing, provide windows, etc, etc. to preview the challenges they see and to get input and pricing. Building a boat must be similar. It is just parts and pieces and calling out the means and methods to tie it all together so it is strong and efficient plus can provide the volume to finish it out the way you want to. I look forward to seeing the plans when you can make it public. I have always enjoyed the "Ben talks" for tech issues and gear reviews/recommendations and to see you put this into a new boat will be fun. Enjoy your time with family and maple syrup, eh?

Walking away wasn’t easy, but it became clear it was the only way to protect the long-term outcome. Once that decision was made, everything downstream started to make more sense. We believe there is a real market for a true blue-water cruising catamaran that’s purpose-built. Not a floating condo. Not a stripped-out performance machine. A tool that works, wherever it’s asked to go.

That belief is why we didn’t stop.

And yes, it has to be able to carry 100L of maple syrup!

Reading about your real life experiences was very valuable, thanks for sharing. I am a fellow sailor, altough have not sailed as long as you’ve done. And I want to learn more from you. See you here and on Youtube.

Yes, I have set up an aluminium boat building factory in Cambodia after 20 years building in Thailand. Definitely hasn't been easy but now have two Mumby 48's under construction and currently expanding to make room for the third. Boat building, especially in another country, isn't the easiest business to take on...

I hope all goes well. I have taken the last 5 years setting up an aluminium boat building factory in Cambodia {moved from Thailand after 20 years building there). It hasn't been easy but last year finally started production of Mumby 48's with two under construction and a third to start. I am currently adding another 250M2 floor space to accommodate hull #3. Boat building has to be one of the most difficult businesses to get into and succeed.

One of the hardest things we’ve ever done. But also turned out the best thing that could have ever happened to us. We met the powerful Pierre Delion and doing anything twice, no matter what it is, ends up being a better product.
